In the late 1800s, Thomas Bard built a shipping wharf at neighboring Port Hueneme and the area’s housing market began. Hollywood Beach was one of three subdivisions and by 1927, more than 100 beach cottages were built.
When filmmakers returned to Hollywood soundstages, the area’s focus returned to recreation including hunting and boating.
